Overview

TransLand, founded in 1982 and based in Strafford, Missouri, operates a fleet of approximately 130 trucks serving all 48 contiguous states, with a primary concentration in the Midwest. Recognized as a “Best Fleet to Drive For®” in 2022, 2023, and 2024, TransLand is committed to creating a positive work environment and prioritizing safety as a core company value.

Situation & Challenge

Before partnering with Rand McNally, TransLand managed safety informally, without a dedicated solution for monitoring driver behavior and vehicle performance. Relying solely on accident reports, tickets, and FMCSA scores, TransLand struggled with gaining deeper insights into driver performance and maintaining consistent safety standards across the fleet. With driver retention as a primary focus, TransLand sought a solution that would enable them to improve safety practices, minimize incidents, and proactively coach drivers to excel.

Using SafetyDirect, we’ve built a proactive safety culture that keeps drivers engaged and raises safety standards across the fleet. By coaching based on real data, we’re not only improving driver performance but also supporting our mission to make TransLand a safer, better place to work.

The Solution

Rand McNally’s SafetyDirect provided TransLand with a centralized platform for managing safety and driver performance data. With the introduction of the Automated Event Ranking (AER) functionality, TransLand can now quickly identify and prioritize the most critical safety events, helping them to coach drivers effectively. By integrating SafetyDirect with ADAS data, TransLand’s team can see not only safety incidents but also comprehensive vehicle diagnostics, further enhancing proactive maintenance and safety interventions.

Result & Benefits

TransLand has experienced transformative improvements in fleet management and driver performance:

  • Improved Driver Retention: With structured coaching based on SafetyDirect data, TransLand has focused on retaining and developing their drivers rather than replacing them. This approach has been particularly effective in the challenging Central Missouri trucking market.
  • Enhanced Safety Metrics: By prioritizing high-risk events, TransLand’s safety team can provide timely feedback to drivers, resulting in a measurable reduction in incidents and violations.
  • Fleet Growth Supported by Safety: Since implementing SafetyDirect, TransLand has expanded its fleet size, further solidifying its position as a top safety-oriented carrier.
